The Benefits of Newly Installed Fascias and Soffits
Exterior maintenance required on the home extends to far more than a bit of window frame painting, and while guttering has an obvious and important function, many people underestimate the role that fascias and soffits play and how they need to be looked after and periodically replaced.
It is true that fascias and soffits give a house a nice decorative finish. They are usually the very last feature to be added in the construction of a new home and they complete the exterior design to provide a neat overall appearance with added ‘curb appeal’. But fascias and soffits have an important purpose that is far more than simply appearance and can add value and a sense of security to your home.
What function do fascias and soffits provide?
Fascias and soffits help to protect the integrity of the home by preventing water from penetrating and damaging the frame of the house, including the rafters. If the fascias and soffits deteriorate and water ingress occurs it can be very costly to repair, and indeed it can cause a level of damage that is deemed irreparable. Also, due to the nature of the damage, this can occur slowly over a period of time and will not always be detectable, and so can become far worse and more costly to repair than is really necessary.
A good standard of fascias and soffits also helps to prevent insects and rodents getting into the attic and will provide a good level of insulation too.
For these reasons it is important to regularly inspect your fascias and soffits and to look to replace them roughly every 20 years, and so in most homes this will only need to be done once in the period of time that you live there.
Trusted and experienced roofing specialists in West Yorkshire
Traditionally, fascias and soffits have been manufactured from timber or cast iron, but these each present practical issues and at Northern Roofline we recommend, provide and install a PVCu material which won’t ever need painting, won’t deteriorate like wood can and is far easier and therefore less costly to install.
The PVCu materials we use contain Calcium Zinc based stabilisers and hence maintain their colour and appearance, removing the need to undertake dangerous, high-level painting and of course maintaining the structure and integrity of the fascias and soffits. At Northern Roofline we use only qualified installers who are also registered as approved installers by the manufacturers of the materials we use, so call us today as on of the the most trusted, knowledgeable, skilled and experienced roofing specialists in West Yorkshire.
