Waterproof Flat Roofs From Northern Roofline

In order to protect any roof from water damage, it is important to discharge rain water as soon as possible and not to let it sit and stagnate. Many people think this is a major problem with flat roofs, but most are installed with a slight gradient that enables rain water to flow off the roof. However, the very nature of a flat roof and its flatter angle means that it can sometimes be more exposed, and hence will be subjected to more extreme weather compared to a traditional pitched roof. So you will always need to take extra precautions against water damage.

This is why we have adopted the use of Sarnafil for our flat roofs at Northern Roofline. This is a PVC single-ply membrane that has a manufacturer guarantee in excess of forty years. There are many benefits to using Sarnafil in terms of the durability of the material, but at Northern Roofline, our professional installers are trained and qualified in using this product, so they can install your roof membrane expertly and also speak to you about its many benefits.

How water damage can affect flat roofs

A major problem with flat roofs is that the wood can expand when the temperature changes, but this isn’t a problem with Northern Roofline flat roofs, because Sarnafil is resistant to solar rays and harsh weather, and hence maintains a constant thermal temperature that protects the infrastructure of the flat roof building.

Sarnafil will also protect the building from UV rays, it absorbs vapour so that the membrane doesn’t blister, and it is coated with a lacquer to make it easy to clean. Maintenance is usually a big issue with flat roofs, but Sarnafil prevents moss, algae and plant growth, so will maintain its durability and its appearance long term.

A practical solution to waterproofing a flat roof

Leaks in a flat roof can cause irreparable damage to a building. Water damage can ruin décor, furniture and the contents of a room, plus it can ruin insulation materials in the roof. But it can also affect the integrity of the building’s structure. If water gets into your timbers it can affect the overall infrastructure of the building, possibly even requiring you to rebuild the structure. The damage could also be difficult to see. So you can face long term damage and only become aware of it when it is too late, not when you could do something about it.

This could all be solved by using a Sarnafil single-ply membrane and being safe in the knowledge that your flat roof is being protected by the very best material, and your building is protected from the harshest winter weather that you know is going to come. So contact our sales team today and we can send our experts to have a look at your flat roof and to talk to you about the most practical and affordable solutions.
